notes

The desire for the cabin as a desire for a horizon, a containement. A horizon of your own.

use the tiling device of the rennaisance on the floor and ceiling and onto the wall at top and bottom to give the illusion that the container is wider than it is.

RORCHECH FLAGS. oculd be particpatory. new flags. Could have names on of interpretation.

CABIN/ET
The recycled shipping container bears the scars of its trans-global drift, perched on four specially made ornamental cast iron pedestals. Inside it has been gradually lined with Douglas Fir, that also makes up furniture, shelves and seats, making a slow transition from container to cabin, from transition to location.
Conversely it makes reference to the ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ – the 18c proto museums that sought to represent new colonial territories with often spurious artifacts. CABIN/ET has been a contemporary 'Cabinet of Curiosities' for a number of installations over the the past year exploring the overlap of physical and psychological landscapes.

ENERGY
The horizon of the cabin is also one prediicated on functionality, of stove and logs, fire and warmth, inside and outside, emphasising the physical delneation of space as opposed to the mental. Not least by ones solitude, and the excluion of negotiating other peoples mental world, that you can only imagine rather than cut with an axe or lift with your hands, or having your mental world challenged in any way. The interaction with another demands you to respond to a mental space, cutting down a tree only reaffirms your existence as a physical object.
